Fall 2007 Schedule |
Hello, I’m Emily Brock, the new Flagship Youth Development
Coordinator at Hellgate. Last year I was an Americorp intern under
my predecessor, Matt Johnson, so I’m already familiar with the
school and the Flagship program. I am especially excited to be a
part of this learning community. The diverse, talented, and
dedicated people who work and study at Hellgate continue to amaze
me. I love walking into the building and hearing the choir, the band,
and volleyball games all going on at the same time.
I grew up
right outside of Boston, Massachusetts where I was always into
athletics – basketball, soccer, and rowing to name a few. From an
early age, I knew that I wanted to work with young people; I
volunteered at schools and worked at summer camps for years. After I
graduated from high school I spent four years in New York City.
There I developed an appreciation for things other than sports. I
took art classes, visited museums, and went to concerts and plays
every weekend.
After a while, I realized that I craved a lifestyle
that involved more outdoor recreation, so I left NYC for Montana and
have never looked back. In 2005 I received my B.A. in History and
Political Science from the University of Montana. These days, I spend
my free time in the winter on the mountain and in the summer on the
river. Now I have my dream job! I work with teenagers and plan fun
activities and clubs. I am interested in just about everything, so,
if you have an idea for a club, I’m excited to help. If you are just
looking to make some new friends, I can help with that, too. Drop into
the Flagship office anytime. I love meeting new people! |
