Information
Who
can participate? All current
6th-8th
graders at Meadow Hill
Where
is the program held? We will
be based at Meadow Hill Middle School, but we will leave the premises to
do activities such as swimming, hiking, and field trips.
How
does my child get to and from the Summer Program?
Rides from parent, walking, biking,
or riding the Mountain Line Bus (it’s free!)
What
should my child bring?
Snacks and a water bottle…we will provide a sack lunch everyday. Bring a
swimsuit and towel Monday through Wednesday (and some Thursdays) if you
plan to swim.
Summer programs will be held
Monday through
Thursday from 10am -5pm, and
on
Friday mornings
from 10am-12pm. Friday
mornings we will work on making zines or out in the garden, then eat
lunch.
How To Register:
Step ONE: Complete the
registration form and return it to the Meadow Hill Flagship Office or
Main Office as soon as possible. It is important to register in a timely
manner, as enrollment is on a first come first serve basis, and is
limited to 25 students.
Priority
registration is May 14!
Step TWO: You will receive a
phone call if you are registered, and later you will get a confirmation
packet in the mail with various paperwork that MUST be completed in
order for your child to attend. It is important that these forms are
returned
by the first day of summer camp.
A calendar of all the scheduled
events will also be included in the confirmation packet.
Week One, July 6—9: Go Team!
Meet the Meadow Hill Flagship
posse! Get to know the other students, play games, mess around in the
dirt in the garden, and explore the community near our school. We will
choose a community service project for the summer, and we’ll end the
week with a hike at Seeley Lake.
Week Two, July 12—16: Sport it UP!
We will play awesome outdoor sports
like lacrosse and ultimate Frisbee, fun lawn games like badminton and
ladderball, and others like dodgeball, capture the flag, and kick the
can. We will go bowling and play some cool water games with other kids
from Porter and Washington.
Week Three, July 19—23: Nature Adventure!
Heading over to Fort Missoula,
we’ll explore the native gardens and greenhouses there. We’ll learn
about native plants and wildlife, play by the river, and investigate
wild habitats. Leah from the Montana Natural History Center will lead
our explorations and teach us about birds, plants and trees native to
Montana.
Week Four, July 26—29: Servin’ the City!
Want to help others in need? This
week we will volunteer at the Povorello Center, help out at the Missoula
Food Bank, and help clean up our city with Missoula Parks and Rec.
We’ll also go to Out to Lunch on Wednesday, and then on Thursday we’ll
celebrate all our hard work by going to see the Missoula Osprey play at
McCormick Park.
Week Five, August 2—5: Funky Farm Life!
Visit the PEAS Farm, the Moon
Randolph Homestead, and check out the MUD backyard sustainability
project. Learn about raising chickens, growing veggies, and milking
goats! We also may have a car wash to raise some money for Flagship.
Week Six, August 9—13: Fabulous Finale!
The last week of Flagship will
rock! We will have some great activities, plan and have an amazing
dance party, watch a movie, and do all kinds of cool stuff that you
choose! Don’t miss out!!!
